This year, more than a thousand songs were submitted to our call. A total of 33 songs were included in our three-disc selection of these, which are in all shades of the rainbow, even more of them show that there is life beyond the narrow range of commercial radio: spanning a wide spectrum of moods, from the deep sea to the uplifting, especially imaginative ones and most of the produced songs are capable of standing on the international stage as well.
The album in the POP category immediately confirms that the pop music supply is on a very good track, whether it is the single that opens the album, i.e. Laurie's hit-suspected guitar composition made up of his own memory mosaics, Kisasszony, or Cold Contrast's distant post-punk, or András Lovasi's daughter Eszter’s own project, or the lyrical Jules War, or the dreamlike ode of Csinszka, born in Transylvania, or the wild hyperpop of Ani Maxima, which dreams about: "if someone were to look for me - I don't know if I'll ever go back to Budapest."
The CLUB record starts with Klpflrtpr's nostalgic piano-laced, yet biting electro (reminiscent of early Dave Tipper's nu skool breakz line), and then immediately continues with Falmi's cheerful jungle, which tells an exciting scientific fact about silk; and then BLZS and Sonic Rain throw you into the deep waters of groovy techno. The upstart of the new wave trance scene, Slym, is also featured, as is the return of a real old school teacher, Mango, known from the early Tilos Rádió family, with a hyper-fast track - and we even get a bonus madness from Dominimál to close it.
On the XPERI record about pushing genre boundaries, the creators invite us on serious journeys. Yibai sends us down to the core of the Earth in the first minutes, so that Haiori can then show us what it's like to rise again to the uninhabited surface a few thousand years later (spoiler: based on his music, birds will still live on the planet); 6red and dipteran already operate with splitting electronic beams, while, for example, Voiwode and SZENDE further open up the space around the listener's head.
This year, for the first time, we also announced winners in the short video category, which visually accompany each piece of music on Spotify: zed zara's animation is associated with the POP record, Atos's with the CLUB category, Zsófi Edőcs with Laurie's song, and Deli Baal's organic wonder with the XPERI record.
